As a tourist, you are often an easy target for fraudsters and thieves. The wonderful blogger, Dorie who is the face behind the blog thedorie.com shares with us her Top 5 Tips for safe travelling!

1. Which Bag Is Safe for Travel?

Choose a shoulder bag instead of a hand bag. Make sure that the strap has a strong material so that it cannot be cut so easily. A belt bag is even better. You wear it close to your body and always have it in sight. And... belt bags or bumbags are super trendy right now - Win Win! If you prefer a backpack, choose one with a strong material and a concealed zipper.

2. Hide Your Valuables!

If you have everything in one place, then everything can very easily disappear at the same time. Therefore, leave some valuables in the hotel: deposit them in a safe place, e.g. the hotel safe or in the double bottom of your suitcase. A passport sleeve with a card case also protects your documents and keeps them together. You should also put one part in your belt/bum bag or rucksack and the other part in the inside pocket of your jacket or front trouser pocket. Extra tip: place a little bit of cash in your pocket so that you can pay for the less expensive things. This way you're not pulling out your wallet or purse every time you want to pay for something, giving fewer thieves something to pay attention to ;)

3. Be Careful!

If you want to travel safely, be attentive to what is happening around you. Also, put your bag on your lap or in front of your feet instead of hanging it on the back of the chair and put your valuables away. An essential tip: Always carry your bag or backpack closed!

4. Know the Tricks!

Each city has its own scam artists, so I would suggest googling the most common scams in that city first. To withdraw money safely while travelling, also use ATMs IN bank buildings if possible and take two cash cards with you if one is no longer available. It is also important that you always have your banks' international bank numbers at hand in case something happens.

5. Make Backup Copies!

... of your most important documents and put them in the cloud. Depending on where I am, and how long I will be there, I will also print out the copies and download them to my mobile phone. This makes it easier for you to prove your identity in an emergency.

That sounds like a lot of rules, but you shouldn't be afraid to travel. With my tips, I want to help you feel safe while travelling. Look forward to your next adventure and have a safe journey!
