What is Slow Fashion?

Slow Fashion refers to the sustainable consumption of clothing or other fashion items. It is the opposite of “Fast Fashion”. The prices we pay for garments are often so cheap, that they’re considered to be seasonal goods and disposable items. Slow Fashion focuses on high-quality products that have a long lifespan. It also creates awareness around fair production and responsible consumption of the planet’s finite resources. The products created by Slow Fashion brands and companies can be distinguished by their timeless, neutral designs. Slow Fashion can also include clothes exchanges, renting, or buying second-hand items. Slow Fashion can help us reduce our consumption of disposable items and focus on existing or high-quality products.

What are the key elements of slow fashion?
Products made from sustainable high-quality materials
 Locally sourced and produced materials
One style per collection! New designs are launched two or three times a year
 Zero waste

How can I join the slow fashion movement?

Follow these steps to join the slow fashion movement:

Choose natural fabrics that are more sustainable and last longer.
Change your shopping habits: Aim for quality not quantity. Invest in products that will last a long time, rather than multiple cheaper seasonal items.
Donate your pre-loved clothes to thrift stores. This keeps your used clothes, bags, and other items out of landfills and means someone else can enjoy them too.
Create a capsule wardrobe using complementary items that you can mix and match to create different outfits. Slow fashion encourages us to shop more mindfully, so versatile pieces are a must!
Look after your items properly to increase their lifespan.

How does Gusti Leather contribute to this?

We put a lot of emphasis on the importance of contributing to the world of Slow Fashion at Gusti Leather. Along with creating high-quality products, we focus on being transparent. We are open with our customers when it comes to our leather and how it’s produced. This has paid off and has become one of our biggest strengths.

Creating partnerships that are based on trust with our local manufacturers is hugely important to us, as this is the only way that we’ll be able to achieve our goals in terms of sustainability and humanitarian efforts. This is why we are planning to have a 360° panorama available on our website for each item, so that you can see the environment in which it was manufactured. Our Gusti Leather studio products are tanned using chrome. We follow guidelines, which we regularly review, for the use and disposal of the chemicals used in this process. Our leather comes exclusively from animals that have been slaughtered for the meat industry. We’re using a by-product that would’ve otherwise been thrown away. Our used leather is a 100% recycled product.

Our customers can contact our customer support team for information about repairing their leather items and more information about our manufacturing process. Our physical stores also have workstations, where we can carry out small repairs. Leather is a natural product, it lasts a long time, and gets more beautiful with age and use.
